Let’s make homemade McDoubles

I have felt, for a rather long time, actually, that McDonald’s McDouble hamburgers are seriously slept on, meaning they don’t receive the recognition they deserve. I’ve tried most of the burgers from McDonald’s, and the McDouble is, hands-down, my preference. It’s simple, it’s delicious, and it gets the job done.

I was contemplating attempting to make a homemade version of a McDouble, and then I figured I may as well share the recipe with all of you, in hopes of generating some McDouble love. The following recipe comes from mashed.com.

“Ingredients

  • 1 sesame seed bun, sliced in half
  • 1 tablespoon finely diced white onion (or 1/2 tablespoon rehydrated dried minced onion)
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 1/8-pound beef patties (roughly 1/4 inch in thickness)
  • 1 slice American cheese
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2-3 dill pickle slices

“Directions

“Bring a skillet or nonstick frying pan to medium heat, then place the bun halves into the dry skillet to toast; once the bottoms of the buns reach a light golden color and toasted texture, remove them from the skillet and set aside.

“If using dried onion, rehydrate dried minced onion by adding it to 1 cup of boiling water, cut heat, and allow onion to absorb the water until there is no longer a hard center. Then drain and set aside.

“Salt one side of your burger patties then place them with the salted side down into heated skillet, then salt the upward-facing patty sides.

“Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, then place the slice of American cheese onto one of the cooked patties and remove from heat.

“Assemble your McDouble by starting with the bottom bun, adding the burger patty with cheese, then the plain burger patty. On the top half of the bun add the ketchup, then the mustard, then the onions, and lastly the sliced pickles.

“Close the burger up with the top bun and enjoy!” the recipe states.

Let’s make some homemade McDoubles, friends.
