Anyone who possesses long hair can attest to the fact that designating efficient hairstyles when it is hotter than hell outside is not the simplest task. The main goal is to get the hair off of one’s neck, and/or out of their face, but aside from a top knot or a messy bun, long-haired folks may be seeking out something a little more creative.
Before you think of suggesting a classic ponytail, depending on the length of someone’s hair, a ponytail oftentimes just doesn’t cut it. I have hair that extends past my ass, and when I wear it in a ponytail, it’s either swinging over my shoulders to stick to my face, or it’s plastered to my back and neck.
Neither are ordeal when you’re already hot and bothered.
My absolute go-to is wearing my hair in a bun close to the top of my head. It doesn’t sit directly on top, because that enables me to pass for an Oompa Loompa; rather, it’s almost toward the back part of my skull, and as much as I rely on this style, it isn’t necessarily the most presentable for a more formal occasion.
I find braids to work wonders in the heat, and because a braid is tight, there aren’t any loose hairs to creep around and piss me off. I’ll do a Dutch braid down the back of my head, and sometimes I’ll even twist into a somewhat aesthetic creation using a claw clip.
Paying homage to claw clips, they’re also fantastic options for simply getting hair out of your face and off of your neck, and you can do a hell of a lot of different styles with these things. Practice helps, but if you’re desperate, try out the braid in the claw clip, or just pin it as best as you can.
