Are you a fan of ‘Outlast’?

If you use Netflix to any extent, you might be familiar with a television series titled Outlast. The first version of it came out quite a while ago, and I can remember watching it with Blaine; we enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t say it was our favourite show that we have ever seen for reasons I will divulge momentarily.

Netflix recently added a new season of Outlast, and this time, the contestants are in the middle of a jungle. I remember the last season I watched taking place in a very cold climate.

This new season is similar to the one we already watched in the sense that 16 contestants enter to compete on the show and must be on a team with at least one other person to win the competition at the end. It’s additionally similar to the last in the sense that supplies and other resources are randomly dropped to the contestants by helicopter, with a first-come-first-serve principle applying.

I’m two episodes into the new season, and I think I’m done, to be entirely honest. This show is named Outlast because the intention of the competition is to outlast as many contestants as possible to win the grand prize of one million dollars. In this second episode I watched, the show organizers decided to grant the participants with quite literally everything they would require to win the competition – shelter materials, fire-starting kits, hunting tools, and even a damn roast pig.

What the hell is the point of watching people compete to be the last man or woman standing if the show is going to guarantee all of the things that they’re intended to compete and fight for? It just irked me and totally defeated the entire purpose of the show, in my own humble opinion.

I don’t think I’ll be finishing this newest season.
