I, like millions of other people, intensely and devoutly watched Game of Thrones (GOT) back when it made its presence known on most television screens globally. I watched and thoroughly enjoyed every season with the exception of the last because it was positively butchered, and while I have been yearning to watch some of the GOT spinoff shows for quite some time, I simply haven’t gotten around to viewing them.
I made up my mind that there isn’t any sense in continuing to wait to watch either House of the Dragon or A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and the smart choice, arguably, would have been to begin with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms because, as of now, there is only one season, and, therefore, less content to get through. But, in traditional Lauren fashion of making things more difficult for myself than necessary, I opted for House of the Dragon, mainly because I’ve seen so many clips from the show on my social media channels. There are currently three seasons, and it takes place roughly 200 years before GOT.
I’m approaching the halfway mark of the first season, and so far, it’s excellent. It definitely offers GOT vibes with its scenery, music, and, of course, incestual relationships, so it’s certainly feeling familiar so far. The dragons are epic as hell, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them; at this point, I believe only Caraxes has made an appearance on screen, but Sunfyre and Syrax have been mentioned.
House of the Dragon is violent, brutal, gutting and emotional, so it isn’t straying from its brother, GOT, in these contexts. I have a ways to go, but I am excited to see what’s coming, as well as meet new characters and see where their stories lead them, as well as their dragons.
