Here’s why The Blair Witch Project is the GOAT of horror movies

My husband and I don’t get a ton of opportunities to watch an entire film together because of our work schedules. Any time we have an evening during which we are both home and not occupied, we try to make the most of it and watch something together, and such an occasion occurred a few days ago. With Halloween approaching, I suggested a horror movie (to which he agreed), and without giving him the option to see which title I selected, I simply told him to buckle up and hang on.

I opted for an absolute horror movie classic titled The Blair Witch Project, and if you know, you know. I’m referencing the original version of this movie, which was released in 1999, and because I haven’t watched it for probably ten years, I deemed it necessary to be chilled to my utter core once again.

This movie is a masterpiece in terms of how insanely scary it is. It follows a group of three young adults as they venture into a heavily wooded area that is rumoured to be home to the legendary Blair Witch. Their aim is to film their excursion in these woods for a few days to incorporate into a documentary about the Blair Witch, and despite several warnings from locals to stay away, the group proceeds with, honestly, not a whole lot of caution.

I have watched many horror movies, and this one remains one of the scariest I have ever seen. The beauty of this movie is that it was filmed in about two weeks, cost nearly nothing to make, is shot solely with a video camera, and not once is the witch ever shown on film. Rather, by relying on excellent acting, visual and sound effects, and a whole lot of chaos, this movie will freak you out beyond anything you might anticipate.
