Okay, perhaps you looked at the title of this post and thought to yourself, “Man, she must be struggling to come up with blog post ideas”. Perhaps this is true, however I try my absolute hardest to compose posts on versatile and new material, and because I have not yet dedicated a post to rice (yes, rice), I thought, well, why not?
I have quite literally been on a rice bender as of late. I tend to go through phases in which I consume a particular food excessively until I become sick of it, and while this is not a very practical thing to do, I have done so for as long as I can remember. Right now my obsession in regards to food is rice, and I though I might offer some ways to spice up your standard white rice dinner and keep things exciting at the dinner table.
One of the things I love to do with rice is incorporate veggies and meat to create a stir fry of sorts. Last night, for example, I made a jasmine rice stir fry with apple chicken sausage, asparagus and avocado for dinner, and not to toot my own horn, but it was damn tasty. I cook my rice with water and black pepper in a sauce pan, and once it is done I throw in my veggies to crisp them up slightly. Once the veggies are cooked through, I remove the rice mixture from the pan, cook my meat, mix the ingredients together and voila! I have created a delicious meal.
I love spicy foods, therefore I always add some hot sauce to my stir fry once it is cooked. I love Tabasco’s green chilli sauce as well as Frank’s Buffalo sauce and Frank’s chilli lime sauce, and a kick of spice seems to take my boring rice to an entire new level of flavour.
How do you cook/eat rice? Let me know your creative flavours!
