When I stumbled across the recipe for Bacon Pickle Pizza, I was immediately intrigued. I love pickles, specifically dill, and furthermore, I can appreciate recipes that incorporate dill pickle flavour into non-traditional dill pickle dishes. Oftentimes you’ll see recipes for dill pickle dips, which is fine and dandy, but when a recipe including dill pickle comes along that is unique, and puts a spin on a different common dish, I’m drawn to that like a Hungarian is to paprika.
I’m Hungarian, so I can say that. Please don’t cancel me.
I’ve never had dill pickle pizza, but this recipe by Lena Abraham for delish.com would be a safe place to begin, I would imagine. Everything about it sounds positively scrumptious, and I encourage you to check it out.
“Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 premade pizza crust
- 1 1/2 c. mozzarella
- 1/4 c. freshly grated Parmesan
- 3/4 c. dill pickle slices
- 4 slices bacon, cooked and chopped
- 1 tbsp. freshly chopped dill
- 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
- Ranch dressing, for serving, optional
“Directions
- Step 1 Preheat oven to 375° and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together oil, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Place pizza crust on prepared baking sheet and brush all over with oil mixture.
- Step 2 Top crust with mozzarella and Parmesan and bake until cheese is melty, 15 minutes. Top with pickles and bacon and bake 5 minutes more.
- Step 3 Top with dill and red pepper flakes before serving with ranch, if using,” the recipe explains.
Bacon is the obvious protein choice in this dill pickle pizza equation, but I imagine chicken or even some crumbled sausage or ground beef would heighten this dish to a further extent, if you desire a more pronounced meat flavour.
Let’s make some Bacon Pickle Pizza, my friends.
