I would like to begin this post by offering my sincerest apologies to any of my readers who may be of Italian descent. It is highly probable you read the title of today’s post and experienced true anguish, and for this, I apologize; pizza is not something that is typically prepared in an air fryer, and I almost feel as though I’m insulting Italy by sharing this recipe.
Alas, I am not Italian myself, so I think if anyone can get away with it, it’s me.
Most people I’ve met and know love pizza, and I don’t think I can recall ever hearing someone say they’re not a fan. Pizza is a crowd favourite, perhaps because it can be so versatile in terms of toppings, types of pizza crust, etc. Speaking of versatility, a recipe from goodhousekeeping.com for Air Fryer Pepperoni Pizzas definitely snagged my attention seeing as I cook most things in my own air fryer, and I wanted to share it with all of you.
“Ingredients
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced into half-moons
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil, plus more for brushing
- Kosher salt
- 4 oz. sliced pepperoni
- 12 pepperoncini, thinly sliced
- All-purpose flour, for dusting
- 1 lb. refrigerated pizza dough, halved, at room temp
- 8 slices provolone cheese, divided
- Honey, for drizzling
“Directions
- Step 1: In small bowl, toss onion with 2 tablespoons oil and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add pepperoni and pepperoncini and toss to combine.
- Step 2: On lightly floured surface, shape each piece of dough to size of insert in bottom of air fryer basket.
- Step 3: Remove air fryer insert and brush with oil. Place 1 piece of pizza dough on top and return insert to basket. Return basket to air fryer and heat air fryer to 400°F (pizza dough will begin to cook as it heats). Once air fryer reaches 400°F, air-fry 3 minutes Using tongs, flip and air-fry 2 minutes more.
- Step 4: Top pizza with 4 slices provolone and half of pepperoni mixture. Air-fry until crust is golden brown and crisp, 7 to 8 minutes more.
- Step 5: Transfer to cutting board and drizzle with honey. Repeat with remaining dough, cheese, and toppings,” the recipe states.
Bon appetit!
