Here’s your sign to eat more beef (part one)

Anyone reading this post who knows me personally will likely think that today’s content is a wee bit biased, seeing as I married a beef farmer. This is true to an extent; I’m eating more beef since getting married than I ever did prior, and I’m certainly not mad about it. But, having a beef farmer as a husband and its affiliated perks aside, beef really has been at the receiving end of hate and scrutiny from a variety of sources, with health professionals being one of the biggest perpetrators.

A lot of us are under the impression that we shouldn’t consume beef, specifically red meat, more than once or twice a week. We have been told that eating more than this could lead to a risk of developing heart disease and/or cancer, and I’m not a health professional, so I’m not suggesting that I know better. However, beef offers a multitude of health benefits to those who consume it within reason (and more than once a week), and I wanted to share some of these benefits in hopes of encouraging you to eat more beef.

This information comes from healthline.com.

“The protein content of lean, cooked beef is about 22% to 26%. Animal protein is usually of high quality. It contains all nine essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins necessary for body growth and maintenance.

“Aside from macronutrients like protein and fats, some vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) are abundant in beef. These include:

“Beef contains many other vitamins and minerals, such as copper, riboflavin, and choline, in lower amounts.

“Animal protein may offer a slight advantage over plant-based proteins for building lean muscle mass because it contains all nine essential amino acids in sufficient amounts. In particular, beef contains leucine, an amino acid that plays a key role in developing the proteins necessary for muscle repair, growth, and regeneration,” the web page states.

Check back tomorrow for additional reasoning as to why you should eat more beef.
