Drowning in your thoughts? Try writing them down

I’m not entirely sure when this started to happen, but within the past few years, I’ve come to notice how much I struggle to process information when I have too much of it internalized in my mind. I figure it might have to do with having ADHD, but I’m not a professional, so I don’t want to wrongly assume; however, I do think there is a probable connection between the two.

My mom relates to this struggle, and she and I were recently talking about how she has quite a lot on her plate right now, much like most people. I suggested to her that perhaps writing some of these thoughts down on paper would help to alleviate some of the mental stress, and she told me that she does do this from time to time.

After our conversation, I started to consider just how effective this practice is for me, personally, and then contemplated how beneficial it could be to plenty of other people. I wouldn’t say this practice is common knowledge, despite how logical the idea is, so I figured I would address it in a post in hopes of helping someone out who feels as though they’re drowning in their own thoughts.

It seems too simple, but whenever your brain feels as though it’s about to implode because of the countless thoughts running laps inside of it, grab a piece of paper and a pencil and start writing them down. As you’re putting your thoughts onto paper, try to visualize them actually being pulled from your head and being placed on paper. It might sound a little corny, but it is effective as hell, and I highly recommend it. If writing isn’t your vibe, consider typing your thoughts out on a computer or even in the notes app on your phone.
