Today’s post somewhat coincides with yesterday’s; I stated in yesterday’s post how I was recently told I meet the criteria for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and it was at this appointment that I was told I am someone who could tremendously benefit from something known as lymphatic drainage massages.
The doctor I saw specializes in Lyme disease, among other conditions, and upon doing an examination of my lymphatic system, he informed me that I am packed full of shit. By shit, I mean toxins, and said toxins can stem from a variety of sources, some common examples being heavy metals, chemicals, pesticides, etc.
This doctor advised me to start going for lymphatic drainage massages, and while I was somewhat familiar with the concept, I wanted to read up on it a little more to better educate myself, and I figured I may as well share my findings with all of you. The following information comes from my.clevelandclinic.org.
“Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle form of massage used to relieve inflammation related to lymphedema. Lymphedema is a common side effect of many health conditions. It’s also common among people recovering from cancer treatments, most notably, breast cancer surgery because surgeons remove several lymph nodes during the procedure.
“Typically, your lymphatic system collects your lymph and returns it to your heart via a network of vessels and nodes. When something disrupts this process, lymph collects in your arms, legs, ankles or other parts of your body, making them swell.
“A massage therapist uses lymphatic drainage techniques to move lymph from your tissues to your lymph nodes, which eases the swelling,” the web page explains.
I don’t want to divulge too much because I plan to make a part two on the same topic, but lymphatic massages are something that could arguably benefit all sorts of people. Check back tomorrow for more information on the matter.
