I’ve never considered myself to be a picky eater, despite not being a tremendous fan of most vegetables. I’ll eat many of them, but I don’t particularly enjoy the vast majority of them.
Oddly enough, one food that I don’t mind having plenty of veggies with is pizza. I realize that makes absolutely no sense and is a bit hypocritical, but I do think the cheese, dough and meat are a contributing factor to dumbing down the taste of the greens.
Some of my favourite veggie pizza toppings include green pepper, mushrooms, and onion, and while these three may not be the core vegetables encompassing a BLT, my preference for them as pizza toppings inspired today’s post – sharing a recipe for a BLT pizza from tasteofhome.com. Check it out.
“Ingredients
- 1 prebaked 12-inch pizza crust
- 1/2 cup Miracle Whip
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
- 12 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
- 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 1-1/2 cups shredded lettuce
- 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
“Directions
- Place the crust on an ungreased 12-in. pizza pan. In a small bowl, combine the Miracle Whip, basil, garlic powder and onion powder; spread over crust. Set aside 1/4 cup bacon. Sprinkle cheeses and remaining bacon over crust.
- Bake at 425° for 8-12 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top with lettuce, tomatoes and reserved bacon. Cut into wedges,” the recipe explains.
Feel free to make your own pie crust if you’re feeling enthusiastic, and while this pizza is BLT-inspired, I don’t think anyone will scrutinize you for wanting to add on any other of your favourite vegetable toppings.
I will admit I had a hard time visualizing the presence of mayo on a pizza, but for the sake of this recipe, let’s not be too hasty to judge.
