I consider being born and bred on a farm to be an absolute blessing in many different ways, but having an awareness of threats and a knowledge of safety is one of the biggest perks, in my humble opinion. From a very young age, caution was instilled in me in the context of being attentive and aware of the dangers of various elements that exist on a farm – livestock, machinery, driving, and a foundational understanding of the significance of being aware of your surroundings at all times while working.
I started carrying a pocket knife as soon as I could drive, and once I got my own vehicle, I was adamant about keeping at least one in my truck at all times. They’re for work, and because of the frequency with which a knife is used on a farm, I have quite a few in my collection.
While my pocket knives are intended to be used for work, because I have been assaulted in the past, I do feel safer when I know I have one within reach. I know a lot of women would not be entirely comfortable toting around a pocket knife for work-related purposes, especially if a knife is not relevant to their work, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel safe, regardless of your location. I was chatting with a friend recently about how women can take measures to feel safe while in public and foreign environments, and I figured I would share some devices I found on Amazon with all of you.
This 2 in 1 Multitool is marketed as a camping tool. It has a clip that could easily be attached to a purse or keychain.
This Personal Safety Alarm is extremely loud and flashes very brightly when triggered.
This Self-Defense Force Keychain can easily shatter glass if you find yourself in a situation in which this is necessary.
Stay safe, ladies. Always.
