Here’s some extremely random yet entertaining facts

When I am bored, I will occasionally research random facts. I’m not exactly sure why I do this, but I figure it’s a better alternative to other things I could be doing in my spare time.

I was struggling to think of a blog post topic to write about today, so I thought perhaps I would share some of these random facts I read when I’m bored with you. These particular tidbits of random yet interesting information come from Readers Digest.

  • McDonald’s carried bubblegum-flavoured broccoli at one point
  • The very first oranges weren’t actually orange, but instead green
  • The letter q does not occur in the name of any of the 50 states in the U.S.
  • When a cow and buffalo mate, their offspring is referred to as a beefalo
  • Scotland uses over 421 different terms to refer to snow
  • Chicago’s reputation for being the windy city has nothing to do with the weather, but rather, it’s residents. The phrase was developed in the 19th century by journalists who believed Chicago’s people were “windbags” and “full of hot air”
  • Peanuts are actually legumes, not nuts
  • The shell of an armadillo is bulletproof
  • When an octopus gives birth, she can lay 56,000 eggs at a time
  • Cats have less toes on their back paws than they do their front
  • Blue whales consume half a million calories in a single mouthful
  • Turkeys are capable of blushing
  • An American student came up with the design for the American flag
  • Cows do not have upper front teeth
  • Noses and ears are the only human body parts that never stop growing
  • H&M stands for Hennes & Mauritz
  • The CIA headquarters supposedly has their own private Starbucks location
  • The tongue of a giraffe can be upwards of 20 inches

Do what you will with this knowledge, but personally, I think this is some pretty interesting stuff.
