Us Ontarians had a bit of a scare on the weekend pertaining to the weather. Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued on Sunday morning, and shortly after, tornado watches and warnings were being broadcasted across radio stations and emergency alerts.
Thankfully, here in Brant County, we did not encounter a tornado. We had some pretty intense winds, rain and thunder, but nothing further than that.
After the weather settled down, I started thinking about just how absolutely terrifying it would be to encounter a tornado, and so I wanted to share with you what to do if you ever find yourself in the midst of one. This information comes from The Weather Network.
- If you’re not at home when a tornado approaches, try to get back to your house, or find a safe, secure location to ride out the storm.
- Stay far away from windows as they often shatter.
- If possible, go underground. Head into your basement or root cellar if you have one, or the lowest point in your house if you’re at home.
- If you’re driving, do not remain in your car. Instead, try to find a ditch to lay in until the storm passes, and get as far away from your vehicle as possible to avoid serious injuries.
- If you’re in your house and a tornado is on its way, put on shoes to save your feet from broken glass and debris and a helmet if you have one on hand.
- If you have pets, try to get a leash on them and keep them nearby.
- Never try to outrun a tornado in a vehicle.
Some of these tips may seem a tad obvious, but I imagine when you find yourself in a swirling vortex of debris and wind, it’s easy to lose your head to a certain extent. Keep these strategies in mind if you ever come across a twister.
I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Excellent work!
