Profile: Travis Fimmel

It has recently dawned on me that I very much have a type when it comes to men. I suppose I never realized how blatantly obvious my tendency to go all googly-eyed when it comes to men with longer blonde hair, blue/green eyes, and a solid build, but considering my fiancé conveniently resembles Charlie Hunnam, it’s hard to ignore at this point.

Moving on.

Adding to my repertoire of very predictable celebrity crushes, I wanted to do a profile post on Mr. Travis Fimmel as he plays Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings, which I am currently re-watching, and the man is pretty damn fine. I of course also wanted to learn a little more about him, so here we go.

This strapping lad is of Australian origin, and, in addition to being a phenomenal actor, he did a fair bit of modelling in his younger years (he is currently 41).

“Fimmel was born near EchucaVictoria, Australia. He was raised on a 5,500-acre dairy farm in Lockington. The youngest of three brothers, he is the son of Jennie, a recreation officer for the disabled, and Chris, a cattle farmer.[3] Aspiring to be a professional Australian rules footballer, Fimmel moved to Melbourne to play for the St Kilda Football Club in the AFL, but a broken leg sidelined him before the season began.[4][5] He was accepted into RMIT to study commercial architecture and engineering but later deferred to travel abroad,” his Wikipedia Page explains.

His modelling career had an interesting start.

“Fimmel’s modelling career first began when he was spotted working out at a gym in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn by the flatmate of Matthew Anderson, a talent scout for the Chadwick Models agency.[8]Fimmel headed overseas and was signed on the spot with agency LA Models in 2002 after walking into their office broke and barefoot.[9] Cast by Jennifer Starr, he then became the first male in the world to secure a six-figure deal to model exclusively for Calvin Klein for a year, and the last to be personally contracted by the brand’s eponymous designer.”

I’m not exaggerating when I say this guy absolutely nailed his role in Vikings, and I think he is an incredible actor. He isn’t hard to look at, either.
