As human beings, it is a rather important component of our existence that we eat. If we didn’t, we, eventually, wouldn’t exist at all.
While the majority of us enjoy consuming food, there are a lot of us who struggle to do so when temperatures are high. Our appetites are suppressed, and the thought of eating something warm or heavy can be repulsing for someone who is really feeling the effects of the heat. And while I entirely understand this reluctance, refraining from eating when we are dying of heat isn’t very good, seeing as a lot of our nutrients and fluids have left our bodies over the course of the day via sweating.
I wanted to see if I could find some snack ideas that are somewhat cooling, or refreshing, if you will, in hopes of providing some options to those of us who have a hard time eating when it’s over 30 degrees. This information comes from about.spud.com.
“Watermelon: Watermelon is a delicious snack to stay hydrated during a heat wave. Eat it fresh out of the fridge (try adding some lime juice and mint!) or chop into bite sized chunks and pop into the freezer for an ultra refreshing frozen treat.
“Frozen Grapes: If you aren’t freezing grapes, what are you doing with your life?! Probably something great. But you should still be freezing grapes:
- Remove them from the stem + rinse
- Place them on a baking tray to freeze
- Once frozen, remove from the tray and store them in a freezer bag or container
“Aguas Frescas: Somewhere between a fruit juice and flavoured water, aguas frescas means ‘fresh water’ in Spanish. This Mexican drink is delicious, cool and refreshing! All you need is a blender, water, fruit, perhaps some lemon/lime juice, herbs, and a fine mesh sieve,” the website suggests.
