I would wager that the majority of us are familiar with the expression ‘trust your gut.’ Essentially, the saying implies that our digestive organs have the ability to send us subliminal messages pertaining to, oftentimes, hairy situations, and that we should trust the message being conveyed.
Phrased in this manner, it is understandable why a lot of folks consider the idea of trusting our gut to be a load of complete and utter bullshit, because if we are to trust any of our organs when it comes to communication, it should probably be the brain. But, I am here to share with you that I personally do concur that there is a lot of truth to the saying, and that listening to and further trusting our gut is a good practice to dabble in as it encourages mindfulness and intuition.
For anyone unsure as to what exactly intuition is, in my own words, it is the ability to comprehend a situation or matter completely without requiring any conscious thinking, or reasoning. For example, say you’re out late running some errands, and you have an unprecedented feeling that the store you were about to enter is not safe for some reason. You decide to abide by your intuition and go home, and the following day, you learn that the store you opted not to enter experienced an armed robbery just minutes after you left the parking lot.
In a weird way, intuition is sort of like being able to get a glimpse into the future without actually seeing anything; rather, your emotions are indicators of what you would be able to see, should you ever find yourself in the future, and they serve as warning signs to gauge whether or not a given situation will have a positive or a negative outcome. Intuition often transpires in physical ways with a sensation in our guts, hence the validity of the saying.
