On Sunday, Blaine and I were in Brantford, running a few errands together. It was later in the day, and he proposed that we grab some dinner while in town so I didn’t have to cook, an idea I fully supported. He suggested pizza and Subway, and considering I genuinely cannot recall the last time I had Subway, we decided on that.
Blaine could eat pizza every day of his life, just to provide you all with a bit of context.
When we walked in, I was happy to see a large advertisement for rice bowls, which, up until Sunday, I wasn’t even aware Subway offered. I ended up ordering the Southwest Steak and Avocado Rice Bowl, but some of the other available options were Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, Green Goddess Veggie, and Crispy Chicken Bacon and Peppercorn Ranch.
My Southwest Steak bowl consisted of, obviously, steak, avocado, rice, lettuce, tomato, onion, green pepper, cucumber and a southwest sauce or dressing of some sort, and it was pretty good. I wouldn’t say it was fantastic because I was hoping there would be a more pronounced flavour, but I did end up bringing it home and eating it at home, so I did throw in some hot peppers and some salt and pepper, which helped.
While the flavour of my rice bowl wasn’t mind-blowing, Subway’s rice bowls are a fantastic option for anyone trying to eat a little healthier and avoid heavy carbohydrates, like a 12-inch piece of bread. I know the bread is delicious, trust me, but the rice bowls tend to offer better nutritional value compared to a lot of Subway’s actual subs. If I were to order another rice bowl, I do think I would try one of the other options, but for my first ever, it wasn’t too shabby at all.
Get yourself a Subway rice bowl and see for yourself.
