The reason I wanted to dedicate the topic of lymphatic drainage massages to two separate posts is because of how relevant they are to most of us. Sure, specific health conditions do warrant eligibility for lymphatic massages to a higher degree than the average, healthy person, but considering how much garbage we are exposed to in a given day thanks to pollutants and chemicals, I figure this sort of massage can benefit just about anyone. Just as deep tissue massages can be advantageous to those of us who have them done regularly, I imagine the same effect can be achieved with lymphatic drainage massage.
I’m not by any means a health professional, though, so do consult with your physician prior to making any decisions.
Once again, the following information comes from my.clevelandclinic.org.
“Lymph drainage massage can help if your lymphatic system isn’t working as it should. You might have a congested lymph system if you develop:
- Swollen lymph nodes in your neck.
- Bloating.
- Brain fog.
- Chronic sinus infections.
- Fatigue.
- Headaches.
- Puffy, swollen ankles or hands.
- Skin conditions like acne, dryness or rashes.
“During lymph drainage, a healthcare provider will use light pressure and strategic massage techniques to prepare and clear your lymphatic system. The session usually starts with a massage to stimulate the areas of your body that house your lymph nodes. This means a healthcare provider will massage your armpits, neck and, with your consent, your groin area. Next, they’ll coax excess lymph fluid from your swollen tissues toward your lymph nodes, where the lymph can reabsorb.
“Lymphatic massage may reduce swelling in your body and make it easier for your lymph nodes to get rid of toxins. Lymphatic drainage massage benefits may include:
- Glowing skin (when done as a cosmetic procedure).
- Immune system support.
- Reduced fluid retention.
- Relief from neuropathy.
- Stress management,” the web page states.
The web does state specific health conditions that do not pair well with lymphatic drainage massages, so be sure to check that out if you’re curious or concerned.
