While I can’t exactly pinpoint what it is, specifically, that I enjoy so much about jalapeno poppers, believe me when I tell you that I am borderline feral for these bad boys. They’re insanely delicious, assuming you’re using a proper recipe and the usual ingredients, and their combination of cheese and spice from the peppers allows for a beautiful medley of flavour on your tongue.
I grabbed a bag of frozen jalapeno poppers from Costco a little while ago, and every time I heat them up, I chastise myself a bit for not trying to make them from scratch. So, for that reason, I thought it would be appropriate to share a recipe to make some from the comfort of your home, and this recipe comes from spendwithpennies.com. Check it out.
“Jalapeno poppers
“Ingredients
- 12 jalapeños
- 6 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese shredded
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
- ¼ cup Panko bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
“Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Wearing gloves, slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise. Using a small spoon, scoop out the seeds and membranes.
- In a bowl mix cream cheese, garlic powder, cheddar cheese and chives (if using).
- In a separate bowl, combine Panko crumbs and melted butter.
- Fill jalapenos with the cheese mixture. Top with crumbs.
- Place on a baking pan and bake 18-22 minutes or until golden.
- Cool 5-10 minutes before serving,” the recipe states.
Jalapeno poppers are often served as an appetizer, but don’t be afraid to come up with a creative way to enable them to encompass an entire meal. Maybe adding a protein to the poppers, for example, bacon, could be one way to do it, along with a starchy side, or even perhaps some sausage of ground beef mixed in. Once, I chopped some up and mixed them in with some rice, and it worked out rather well.
