If you’re going to do something, give it your all

My family and I have a long-standing joke regarding how I tend to go about things with utmost gusto. I suppose you could categorize me as an intense person, and I certainly feel my feelings when they strike. In addition to being very expressive with my face, I tend to do the same with my body, to the point I end up accidentally breaking things because I use far more force than necessary.

It’s something I’m attempting to be aware of, but it honestly doesn’t bother me, aside from when I am unintentionally destructive.

I mentioned destroying my knee while playing rugby about a month ago, and just recently, I finally learned what is actually wrong with the thing. As it turns out, I tend to apply this whole idea of giving it your absolute all to injuries, because she’s dicked real good.

I have completely torn my lateral meniscus; I have almost completely torn my ACL in half (apparently it’s holding on for dear life); I have a decent amount of broken cartilage and other foreign bodies floating around inside of my knee; when the injury occurred (I was going in for a tackle), my femur slammed into my tibia so hard it fractured it.

Naturally, when I finally got the news, I informed my family, who quite literally shook their heads at me in silent judgment, and I knew why – they, like myself, were considering how I have to complete even the most menial of tasks with utmost intensity, including but not limited to hurting myself.

I still cannot comprehend how this injury even happened, because I was the one making the tackle, let alone how bad it is. It could always be worse, however, so I’m trying to remind myself of that and be grateful that I am still somewhat mobile, depending on your definition of mobility.
