A colleague of mine is an absolute wizard when it comes to essential oils. She knows the benefits of just about every type of essential oil, for example, what to use them for or what not to use them for, and she actually makes bracelets infused with a variety of essential oils. After speaking with her about which oils work best for acne, she proceeded to explain to me how beneficial peppermint essential oil is for inflammation in the body. I told her about the multitude of issues I have had with my foot, and she recommended that before going to bed in the evening to apply some peppermint essential oil to my foot to calm the irritation in it over time. She advised to mix the oil with some coconut oil to dilute it, but I already owned a rollerball with peppermint essential oil in it that is safe to apply directly to the skin, so I gave it a gander.
I have been applying the oil to my injured foot at night for about a week-and-a-half now, and I have noticed a difference in terms of the pain I typically experience when I roll out of bed in the morning. Normally, my foot is stiff and sore for a few hours after waking up, but said discomfort has been significantly diminished since I’ve been applying peppermint oil to the injured area of my foot. I actually ended up re-straining my foot a couple of weeks ago, and after wearing my ankle brace for one day and using peppermint essential oil twice daily, the pain was almost gone the next day.
I highly recommend trying out peppermint essential oil to reduce inflammation in the body, but as always, it’s best to speak with a doctor or a professional prior to trying it.
Oh, another positive? My feet smell minty fresh when I wake it. It’s a win-win situation.
