With the recent shutdown here in Ontario thanks to a rise in cases of COVID-19 and its variants, small businesses have taken a tremendous hit. All businesses have taken a hit in some way as a result of this pandemic, but arguably not nearly to the same extent small businesses have, and this third lockdown we are finding ourselves in is yet another kick in the gut for anyone affiliated with the operations of a small business.
What is so angering about the lockdown protocols and requirements is that many small businesses in various realms regarding what they offer in terms of service have been forced to close their doors to the public yet again, meanwhile big-box stores and corporations are able to remain open while abiding by a limit in how many customers are allowed in the store at once. It is unfair, wrong and infuriating, and I’m feeling this way not even owning a small business myself. I empathize for these people.
I know a lot of people who own their own small business, my sister being one of them. Witnessing how much her business has slowed because of these lockdown stipulations is so disheartening, and my sister isn’t the only one in this predicament. What is happening to small business owners in Ontario as of late is not okay, and they need our help to stay afloat.
I implore you to go out of your way to support small businesses throughout the duration of this lockdown. If you know of a small business who has been able to remain open this time around in lockdown world, give them their business. Once this lockdown lifts, please make a conscious effort to support small businesses as they re-open once again. Small businesses have never suffered to this extent in years past, and they are desperate for someone to hear them. Show them that you do hear them and want to help.
