I recently had some bloodwork done, and when my doctor called me and asked me to come in for an appointment to discuss the results, I figured they weren’t great. My doctor informed me I have a rather hefty hormone imbalance (which I already knew thanks to a naturopath), and he provided me with some recommendations as to how to go about getting my hormones back in check.
For anyone who is fortunate enough to have never experienced imbalanced hormones, allow me to inform you that it is not fun, nor is it good for reproductive health. I thought I would write a post about it in hopes of educating or assisting anyone else dealing with the same problem. This information comes from healthline.com.
The following are some examples of symptoms one might experience if dealing with an imbalance in hormones:
- “weight gain
- hump of fat between the shoulders
- unexplained and sometimes sudden weight loss
- fatigue
- muscle weakness
- muscle aches, tenderness, and stiffness
- pain, stiffness, or swelling in your joints
- increased or decreased heart rate
- sweating
- increased sensitivity to cold or heat
- constipation or more frequent bowel movements
- frequent urination
- increased thirst
- increased hunger
- decreased sex drive
- depression
- nervousness, anxiety, or irritability
- blurred vision
- infertility
- thinning hair or fine, brittle hair
- dry skin
- puffy face
- rounded face
- purple or pink stretch marks,” the website says.
For me, the imbalances were detected via blood test, but other methods to test for a hormone imbalance include an exam and different methods of diagnostic imaging.
Treatment is a whole other can of worms because treatment varies depending on what hormones are needing correction. Sometimes, naturopathic remedies can work wonders, like seed cycling, and sometimes traditional medicine methods like medication are required.
Hormone imbalance is not something to be taken lightly, and if you think you may be experiencing it, consult with your doctor.
