Stressed about how to de-stress? Read this

Stress is, unfortunately, something that has relevance to just about each and every one of us in one way or another throughout our adult years. Varying in intensity, yes, and coming from a variety of different mediums, sure, but simply put, none of us are immune to experiencing stress, with the exception of someone positively zoinked out on weed, perhaps.

Personally, I’m under more stress in my own life right now than I have been in a while, and it hasn’t been fun, to say the least. I think my Lyme disease is a contributor, but the stress I am currently experiencing is not only affecting me mentally and emotionally, but furthermore, physically.

I don’t think I’ve ever endured physical signs of stress up until this point, and, naturally, this realization prompted me to stress even more. It’s an incredibly nurturing and healthy cycle.

That previous statement was laden with sarcasm, in case you weren’t sure, so please don’t take it seriously.

I truly struggle with how to determine the best ways I can personally de-stress, and I doubt I’m alone in my struggle. So, I thought I would do some internet digging on the topic of de-stressing, and the following tactics, which I have paraphrased, come from mayoclinic.org:

  • Exercise
  • Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet
  • Keeping a distance from habits that fail to benefit health, like drugs, smoking, drinking, etc.
  • Meditation
  • Laughter
  • Being social and connecting with others
  • Respecting our own boundaries and telling people no when necessary
  • Sleep – getting enough of it and making sure it is of good quality
  • Yoga
  • Writing in a journal or diary
  • Enjoying music
  • Professional help

I already rely upon a few of the suggestions and tips listed above, but I will admit that I am slacking in some areas.

I know I don’t speak for only myself when I say stress is stressful (at least I hope I don’t), and perhaps this post can assist someone else struggling, too.
