I’ve always enjoyed educating myself about things relative to health and wellness that I am not terribly familiar with. I like learning about alternative and holistic approaches to medicine as I often find new methods interesting, and furthermore, I like to question whether or not I think they could benefit me.
I am familiar with Reiki, but not thoroughly, and because I’ve seen the term popping up more and more as of late, I figured now is an excellent time to explore the concept to educate myself and others. The following information comes from everydayhealth.com.
“Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century, according to the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing.
“It’s based on the idea that we all have an unseen ‘life force energy’ that flows through our bodies, according to the International Center for Reiki Training. A Reiki practitioner gently moves her hands just above or on the client’s clothed body, with the intention of reducing stress and promoting healing by encouraging a healthy flow of energy.
“A survey conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2008 found that 1.2 million adults and 161,000 children in the United States had received energy healing therapy like Reiki in the previous year. Reiki is now used by a growing number of Americans who believe it helps with relaxation, anxiety, pain management, and depression, according to a past pilot study.
“Reiki therapy is a way of guiding energy throughout the body to promote the recipient’s self-healing abilities, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). The Reiki belief system and that of the practitioner is that they don’t cause the healing, nor are they the source of that healing energy; they’re a channel for the energy — similar to the way a garden hose acts as a channel for water, according to a past review,” the web page states.
Have you tried Reiki? What was your experience with it?

I have tried Reiki and I left feeling very balanced. With my MS, I regularly have odd sensations in my body. They can vary in severity but in any given day I have sensitive skin, my hands are very weak and I often have pins a needles in both my arms and legs. One particular time during a Reiki session, I felt a huge electrical shock go through one of my arms and immediately I had feeling back in that hand / arm. Good luck On your journey!
