Bored of water? Try these tricks to jazz it up

My mom, sister and I recently had a conversation about water.

Riveting stuff, I know.

My sister, me, and my dad all drink ridiculous volumes of water. I probably drink two to three gallons a day, my sister more, and my dad is usually about level with my consumption. My mom, on the other hand, is someone who struggles to drink enough water, and she actually has to force herself to drink it sometimes just to remain hydrated. My husband is sort of like my mom when it comes to water, but his biggest issue is the taste – he finds it bland and would much rather drink something with flavour, like pop or juice.

Pop and/or juice are wonderful choices in moderation, but they aren’t the best to drink regularly or in place of water because of their sugar content. Because of the high sugar levels in juice and pop, a lot of folks resort to water additive flavours like Crystal Light or Mio, but the issue with these is that instead of bursting with sugar, they’re riddled with aspartame, which isn’t any better. It’s actually worse than sugar.

If you want to try a healthier approach to water additives, lemon, lime and orange slices and juice are a great option, but again, these can get boring after a while. So, what are some other ways to keep water exciting?

Some people like incorporating herbs into their water, like mint, ginger, cilantro, basil or rosemary. I like mint in some beverages, but that’s about it for me when it comes to adding greens to my water. I ain’t no cow.

An additional option is adding a bit of juice or pop to water to add some flavour without all of the sugar and/or additives. Perhaps start out by mixing half water and half pop or juice, and slowly working your way down toward mainly water and less and less juice or pop.
