When I was a child, I was very much under the impression that eating pasta for three meals daily was more than reasonable, arguably because I had an obsession with pasta that could rival the most patriotic of Italians.
For context, I’m Hungarian, Dutch and Irish, so I’m not entirely sure where my love for noodles stems from.
Regardless, my mom explained to me that most folks do not live on only pasta, despite my implorations, so I decided that once I was living on my own, I would eat as much of it as I could stomach.
I wanted to see what sorts of pasta I could find on Amazon because some grocery items are more affordable through Amazon than they are in a grocery store. I stumbled across a brand called fiber gourmet, and decided to order some to try because of how low-calorie the pasta is. I’m not currently trying to lose weight, but pasta is quite starchy, so I don’t eat it as often as I would like, despite my childhood aspirations. Here is a blurb about the product from the fiber gourmet website, linked above:
“At Fiber Gourmet we use 100% wheat in our products which is why they taste just like the unhealthy alternatives, giving you the same delicious taste and texture you know and love.
“How do we pull this off?
“Over 90% of the calories in wheat flour come from its starch. Starch molecules are really long chains of sugars. Enzymes in your body release sugars from the starch during digestion, sending the sugar into your bloodstream and throughout to your body.
“With a few subtle alterations to the starch, we can make it a lot harder for the enzymes in your body to release the sugar, keeping them locked away and out of your body. This stops you from getting the blood sugar spike (and crash) that you typically get from a carb-heavy meal, and effectively converts the bloated calorie-packed starch into a lean calorie-free fiber.
“By making our pasta out of a mix of this improved starch (now called modified wheat starch) and the original protein from the flour (vital wheat gluten), we can increase protein and fiber while reducing net carbs and calories,” the web page explains.
This pasta is hearty as hell, tastes just like ‘regular’ pasta, and is quite affordable. You can find it on Amazon here.
