Sugary alcoholic drinks have never been my thing. I find them to be excessively sweet (almost like you can feel cavities forming as you sip on them), and honestly, wine and beer have always been my preference.
That is, wine and beer were my preference until I discovered Cottage Springs vodka sodas. Now my top picks include all three.
Cottage Springs Beverage Company is located in Toronto, says the can, which is an added bonus for me as Canadian-made products can be difficult to come by. So far, I’ve seen their vodka sodas in lemon lime, watermelon, and Ontario peach flavours, and yes, I have tried all three. My favourite is the watermelon, with the peach coming hot on its heels, but they’re all super tasty.
These beverages are gluten free, carbohydrate free, sugar free as well sweetener free, and the ingredients in these guys include carbonated water, vodka, natural flavour, citric acid, potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate. I don’t know about you, but I don’t mind being able to pronounce all of the ingredients in anything I’m consuming.
They’re also 100 calories per can, which is something I believe many of us can appreciate for many different reasons.
Each can is five per cent alcohol for 355 ml of product, and a single can costs less than three bucks, says the LCBO website.
Not bad, in my opinion.
I’m by no means a foodie or an alcohol expert, so my knowledge of food and alcohol pairings is seriously lacking. But, because these drinks are so light, I would think that they would pair well with most proteins depending on the flavour you happen to be eating/drinking.
The main reason I like these products from Cottage Springs is because their sodas don’t leave an awful sweetener-taste in your mouth, like many other cooler-like drinks do. These drinks are light, refreshing, and perfect for a day at the cottage – or in your backyard.
