Differentiating dreams: a how-to guide

Continuing the theme of dreams and dreaming as referenced in yesterday’s post, today we will be chatting about the different types of dreams, and furthermore, what exactly dreams are.

You know when you say or write a specific word multiple times and it begins to look all cattywampus? I’m currently experiencing that with the word dream, and I apologize if you’re experiencing the same.

Anyways, the following information once again comes from medicalnewstoday.com.

“Dreams are a universal human experience that can be described as a state of consciousness characterized by sensory, cognitive and emotional occurrences during sleep.

“Nightmares

“Nightmares are distressing dreams that cause the dreamer to feel a number of disturbing emotions. Common reactions to a nightmare include fear and anxiety.

“They can occur in both adults and children, and causes include:

  • stress
  • fear
  • trauma
  • emotional difficulties
  • illness
  • use of certain medications or drugs

“Lucid dreams

“Lucid dreaming is the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. They may have some control over their dream.

“This measure of control can vary between lucid dreams. They often occur in the middle of a regular dream when the sleeping person realizes suddenly that they are dreaming.

“Some people experience lucid dreaming at random, while others have reported being able to increase their capacity to control their dreams,” the web page states.

Dreaming really is a fascinating concept. I’m not certain if there is a limit, or extent to which our imaginations can flourish whilst dreaming, and I find it fascinating that we somewhat enter an alternate world, realm, or whatever the fuck you wish to call it when we dream.

The meaning of dreams is a whole other avenue of information we could and will explore, but we shall cover that another day in another post.

Sweet dreams in the meantime, my friends.
