Blaine has been dealing with sweaty feet since I first met him nine years ago. Over time, however, the sweating has increased in severity, to the point that in the last couple of years or so, the bottoms of his feet are literally raw. The skin in between his toes is so worn down it is painful to touch, and with this latest development, I said enough is enough and booked him an appointment to see a podiatrist.
I should mention Blaine did see our family doctor about the issue twice, and both times he was prescribed some bullshit topical cream that did absolutely nothing.
I was convinced Blaine’s sweating through his feet was somehow connected to high levels of toxins in his body (he is an industrial painter and farmer), and sure enough, the podiatrist confirmed my suspicions. As opposed to toxins, though, she explained to Blaine his body is under a lot of stress, and its way to rid itself of said stress is through excessive sweating via his feet.
The podiatrist prescribed Blaine some different products and recommended he start using a foot bath a few times a week to soak his feet in a mix of water, Epsom salt and Listerine.
Yes, you read that correctly – Listerine. She did suggest getting the lightest colour of Listerine possible as the dark, dark blue version will stain your skin, so keep that in mind.
Lastly, the podiatrist also recommended Ashwagandha to Blaine. It is an evergreen shrub that grows in both Africa and Asia, and a lot of folks take it to combat stress. You can find capsules of it in most drugstores.
There is no way in hell Blaine would have received these tips had he continued to try taking the traditional medicine route, and I’m hoping anyone else out there struggling with sweaty feet can benefit from this knowledge.
