Continuing the conversation we started yesterday, today’s post will be an extension of our chat about self-care and how to go about saving some money while still taking care of ourselves. As I said in yesterday’s post, self-care is of tremendous importance; however, many of us refrain from partaking in it because of the cost of many services associated with the idea of looking after ourselves, for example, massage, therapy, etc.
Ensuring we take proper care of ourselves does not have to be a pricey affair, though, and I thought I would share some of the things I do to practice self-care without corrupting my bank account.
Exercise is a fantastic means of practicing self-care, and it does not have to occur within the confines of a gym. These days, there has never been more free, readily available material via social media platforms and YouTube to allow someone to exercise from home, with or without equipment. I exercise daily and haven’t entered a gym in decades, and I am certain it helps to maintain my mental health.
On the topic of exercise, a simple walk can work wonders in the equation of self-care. Immersing ourselves in nature is a wonderful practice, and even if you live in a heavily urbanized area, there are all sorts of walking and hiking trails you’re welcome to make use of.
Something that almost always makes me feel better is a bath. I realize some people out there despise the idea of a bath, but assuming you haven’t entered the tub straight from the sewers, you should be fine. Take some time to soak and use your favourite body wash for a solid pick-me-up.
If you have pets, spend time with them. Cuddling my sweet pup, Lenny, always boosts my mood, and in caring for myself by interacting with her, I’m simultaneously (I think) boosting her mood.
