I think it’s fair to assume that most of us have heard the phrase, “it’s the little things in life,” at least once or twice. We’re told to appreciate small joys and things that bring us happiness that aren’t particularly extravagant, and I think acknowledging these small joys is so important in terms of seeking out happiness.
I thought it would be beneficial to start a small things movement, if you will. Encouraging one another to share our little things with each other is a great way to perpetuate an appreciative attitude, and it may provide someone with inspiration along the way. So, here are a few of my little things.
- Going to bed with freshly shaved legs
- Curling up in a blanket fresh out of the dryer
- The smell of tobacco curing
- The stillness of a summer night
- Hitting all green lights
- Hearing your favourite song come on the radio just as you were thinking about it
- Having meals with my family
- Watching scary movies with my boyfriend
- Having a shower and feeling oh so clean after a really humid day spent outside
- Having a good hair day
- When my mom makes my favourite foods for dinner
- Driving down a country road with the windows down with my dog
- Laying down in bed after a long day
- Sitting on my back porch with a glass of wine in the summertime
- Finding money in a jacket I haven’t worn in a while
- Meeting good, friendly people
- Helping people
- Having a bubble bath in the wintertime
- Listening to a thunderstorm
