Finding happiness in letting go

As of late, I’ve come to a startling realization regarding certain things in my life. To be more specific, I’ve been fortunate enough to acknowledge the happiness that can present itself when we let go of or remove negative influences and forces in our lives, and I wanted to discuss this epiphany with all of you.

I’ve made mention of my anxiety, depression and OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) a few times in my blog posts, and I’m mentioning my mental health again because it pertains to the topic at hand. I also deal with perfectionism, which is commonly associated with anxiety disorders, and my perfectionism is something that has negatively influenced me for a significant length of time.

I’ve made significant progress in my mental health over the years, and I am certainly in a better place now than I was ten years ago, when I was in a rather unpleasant car accident with my grandparents. This accident prompted the onset of my mental health issues, and changed my life as a result.

Recently, I’ve started to recognize the power of letting go in the context of my mental health. Habits and ticks I have endured for years have, within the past while, made their irrelevance more pronounced, meaning I have been able to let go of things I have been doing for too long that do not benefit me in any way, shape or form.

I cannot stress the happiness and freedom that comes with letting go of things that have us in their snared in their manipulative, doubt-ridden, and toxic grasp. It is something I truly hope everyone can experience at some point in life, and it is mind-blowing once we are able to understand that we really can walk away from such incredibly powerful forces and find happiness in doing so.
